STC relocates parking area for some buses

SHARJAH: The parking of some public buses has been changed from the front gate of Rolla Park in Sharjah to the opposite side of the same park, a few metres away.

The affected buses are all inter city lines: 112 (going to Al Musalla station, Ajman), 113 (heading to Al Qusais, Dubai) and 114 (going to Hamriya Free Zone, Ajman).

“We have shifted them to the left side of the park in preparation for the opening of the refurbished and widened park,” said Adel Khalil Al Housni, the Inter City Bus Manager at the Sharjah Transport Corporation (STC).

Asked when the park will be opened, he said it is a matter to be decided by the Sharjah Municipality, not the STC. A source from the municipality told The Gulf Today the opening is “a few months away.”

The relocation, however, does not affect intra city lines such as 88 (Rolla to Al Sajaa) and 14 Express (Al Sharq Terminal to Airport), 12 (Rolla-National Paint, Industrial Area No.5).

The buses that are not affected from the decision are: 3 (Rolla Square-National Paint, Industrial Area No.5), 8 (Al Ittihad Terminal to Al Nahda Terminal), 15 and 99 (both from Al Ittihad Terminal to Sharjah International Airport), 2 (Khaled Port Terminal to Al Sharq Terminal) and 19 (Al Ittihad Terminal to Industrial Area No.15).

Director of Project Construction at the STC, Ahmed Al Wagad, said the new parking stretches to 213 metres “and it is safer for the passengers.”
