Nol cards mandatory in RTA inter-city buses now

The Public Transport Agency (PTA) of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has suspended the old traditional payment system via paper tickets for bus services and introduced the Unified Fare Collection System (Nol cards) in all inter-city bus services from and to Dubai except to Abu Dhabi.

Increased seat occupancy in Dubai buses

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) has noted an increase in the number of commuters taking the Dubai bus in 2011 compared to the previous year. From a 40 per cent seat occupancy rate in 2010, the number increased by one percent last year which was a significant development according to RTA Chairman of the board and executive director Mattar Al Tayer.

Dubai's RTA lifts 346.5m passengers in 2011

A total of 346.5 million passengers used public transport in Dubai last year, Mattar Al Tayer, chairman and executive director of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced. The passenger figures compared with 332 million passengers lifted in 2010, a 4.3 percent rise, according to the figures released by the RTA's statistics section.

Relief for bus commuters

In my community report published in Gulf News on September 4, 2010, I had written about the need for one more NOL card machine in the Naif Park bus stop in Deira. This bus stop is one of the biggest bus stops in Dubai. I always saw long queues in front of the NOL card machine on a daily basis.
